It is a happy day that Matt passed the doctoral qualifier exam. Congratulations, Matt! Now on to the next mission.
Professor Ryan Petrie Visits
Our collaborator Prof. Ryan Petrie from Drexel University, visited Hopkins and gave a special seminar entitled “high intracellular pressure promotes epithelial tissue integrity”. Many cell motility aficionados showed up at the talk to hear the latest development on the frontier of understanding how cells move. We had a great time discussing hot science in cold weather!
Ed Wins Best Poster Award at INBT Undergraduate Research Symposium
Ed presented his research project of developing high-throughput force measurement techniques at the annual Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology undergraduate research symposium. He won the best poster award with a cash prize. Congratulations, Ed!
Oludunsin Presents at the 33rd annual American Society for Gravitational and Space Research (ASGSR) conference
Oludunsin presents his research using the microgravity simulator and the second-generation design of the simulator at 33rd annual American Society for Gravitational and Space Research (ASGSR) conference.
The presentation was successful and Oludunsin was offer the internship opportunity at NASA Ames Research Center in CA. Congratulations!
Seungman’s Heart Paper Is Accepted
Seungman’s paper “Mechanical characterization of hiPSCs-derived cardiac tissues for quality control” has been accepted to be published in Advanced Biosystems. The study is a joint effort between Lab of MOB and Prof. Naru Hibino’s group, and the latest milestone of this challenging and but rewarding collaboration. We thank all the authors for your good work!
Seungman’s Paper is Accepted
Seungman’s (and Ed’s) paper ” Dynamic adhesion characterization of cancer cells under blood flow-mimetic conditions: effects of cell shape and orientation on drag force” is accepted to be published in Microfluidics and Nanofluidics. Congratulations!
Oludunsin Wins American Society for Gravitational and Space Research Student Travel Award
Oludunsin’s research abstract was selected for American Society for Gravitational and Space Research Student Travel Award to attend the annual meeting. This year’s meeting will take place at the Bethesda North Marriott and Conference Center in Bethesda, MD. Every year this conference brings together gravitational and space researchers from around the world. Congratulations!
Bye Brian and Li: Group Happy Hour Summer 2018
We said goodbye to our helpful and delightful summer interns Brian Hu and Li Sun during the happy hour at R house. It has been a productive and pleasant experience working with you. We will miss you, Brian and Li!
Matt’s Paper Is Accepted
Matt’s paper “3D-printed magnetic tweezers for dorsal traction force measurement” has been accepted to be published at the journal Biotechniques. Congratulations, Matt. We look forward to many more papers to come shortly!
Seungman Wins 2018 Maryland Stem Cell Research Foundation Award
Seungman’s proposal to develop implantable cardiac patches to treat heart failures has won the MSCRF postdoc fellowship (http://www.mscrf.org/content/awardees/2018Awardees.php). Seungman will be investigating how to improve the treatment outcome for heart failure patients by establishing standardized quality control protocols for clinical applications of 3D printed cardiac patches. We congratulate Seungman for his outstanding accomplishment and are reminded of his tireless efforts in biomechanical research.
